Savannah CraftBrew Fest

Beer is not wine, but like wine it is a product of the miracle of fermentation. The Savannah CraftBrew Fest happens this weekend (August 29-30, 2008) over at Hutchinson Island. Participating brewers include Atlanta's Sweetwater Brewing Company and Schmaltz Brewing Company (makers of the best-named line of beers of all time: He'Brew, the chosen beer). The schedule features a beer and food pairing dinner on Friday and a grand tasting on Saturday. Sunday appears to be left open, presumably so attendees can lie on the floor of their hotel's bathroom, their heads on the cool porcelain of the commode.

Wine Club Overview

Welcome to the Southbridge Wine Club (Savannah, GA) website!

Overview:

- 12 couples
- One tasting per month on the 2nd Saturday
- Each couple hosts once per year
- Since a bottle of wine contains 25 ounces, each individual gets to taste a 1 ounce pour of each wine

Rules for 2008/2009 Season

1. Every couple will bring one bottle of moderately priced wine under $30 (up from $20 last year). Also remember, as an attendee, it is your responsibility to research the wine YOU bring. That means get on the internet, read magazines or books, find out ratings if possible. There is more to wine than the back of the label!

2. Every couple will host a tasting once during the year. Please send out a reminder at least 2 weeks prior to your event.

3. Please keep in mind that as much as we all enjoy the awesome culinary skills of our hostesses, our focus is learning about wines. Keep things simple and suited to your theme.

4. It is the hosts’ responsibility to research the wine theme and “educate” the rest of us about the wine or region at the beginning of the tasting.

5. It is also the hosts’ responsibility to purchase one bottle of “top rated” wine between $100 and $150. This year we will not be collecting $10 per tasting. We will cap off our tasting with this “super wine” and compare it to the rest of our evening’s selections. How often will we have the chance to taste $100 bottles of wine??? If you are like us, the answer is VERY RARELY! We think this will be an awesome treat and quite an education for everyone!

6. As a guest, please make sure you RSVP to your host ASAP. They will need to know how many people to plan for.

This year’s wine club should be fun and informative! Can’t wait for the fun to begin!!!!
